I can feel the pressure that they feel of getting hitched and being on track just by talking to them.

It wasn't long ago when I too was that single girl who was on the verge of giving up trying to find a man and had literally planned to freeze my eggs (not kidding). After years of horrible dating experiences, dating apps and not quite right relationships, I was ready to come to terms with being single forever. It didn't help that girlfriends around me were getting engaged, having babies and progressing how I only wished I could be as well.

To all my single ladies out there, I feel your pain. The only advice I can offer is to not give up. I know it can be hard when you're given shitty experiences only to be followed by nightmare experiences only for you to question what the hell was it all for? I know it may sound crazy but I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and with every experience you can truly learn something. As you grow or become more aware of what you truly need and want, it'll lead you to who you're ultimately suppose to end up with.

Which leads me to my next piece of advice and that is to not settle. NEVER SETTLE. You'll regret it for the rest of your life and you only get one life. All you girls who are in relationships where you have to give excuses as to why it is such a good one or force a square peg into a round hole, you know deep down it isn't right. Trust your gut, you're smarter than you give yourself credit for.

The final piece of advice I can give for your sanity is stop comparing yourself to others and listening to society norms of what you should be doing. Fuck it all. You are your own individual being who is allowed to have different timelines and plans that is right for you and you only. If you don't want to get married or have kids, that's cool. Never be pressured to do something you'll regret in the future, at the end of the day, you have to live with it, not anyone who is judging you. You do you boo.

I hope this has been helpful. Go on and be your bad self and live your best life! citynitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05176600267032530793noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6580841975164542171.post-14536174497686624172019-04-16T08:46:00.000-07:002019-04-16T08:46:19.655-07:00Some of my favorite spots in Los Angeles: Restaurant Edition My decision to move to Los Angeles from the Bay Area over 10 years ago has been one of the best decisions I've made in my life. I'm grateful that I've been able to try so many different restaurants in the area. I definitely have my list of spots I haven't been able to hit up yet, but for now, here are some of my favorite spots that really sets the bar and standard as to what I compare any other restaurant I go to with similar food. Some of these spots continue to be my favorite spots since when I first moved to Los Angeles over 10 years ago!

Definitely hit up these spots on your next visit to Los Angeles. I promise you won't be disappointed! :)

I'm sure this list will be ever changing as I discover new amazing places. If you have any recommendations, please let me know! Sharing is caring ^_~
That was me before back in the day.

Now that I'm older I do try to have more balanced meals where there are more fruits and vegetables incorporated in each meal.

Like all new year resolutions, I would always have to be healthier as one of them and 2019 was no exception. However, end of 2018 and beginning of 2019 took a tremendous toll on my health. My eczema was worst then ever, I wasn't sleeping properly, I had tremendous anxiety and I would have little to no energy to get up at all.

I was desperate for help. That's when I stumbled on the Medical Medium and his teachings of celery juice. For some odd reason this craze for organic celery was selling out at my local grocery stores in Los Angeles. I was curious and wanted to see what all the hype was about.

So I juiced celery (apox 8-16 oz/ day, 1 whole stalk) with my blender and then strained it with a milk bag. Drank it first thing in the morning before eating anything for two weeks straight, here's what happened:

1. The most noticeable difference was in my skin. Before I would wake up with the driest skin ever and it would be dull with red itchy patches. My skin has been the best it has ever been and my eczema is nearly non existent.

2. Digestion for me has improved. Those of you who aren't regular (if you know what I mean ^ _~ ) that isn't healthy at all. If it ain't coming out of you, the toxins are all up in your body.

3. Like I said before I wouldn't be able to get up until after 10am for the life of me and my energy level just sucked. Since drinking celery I have been able to get up at around 6:30AM every morning (even weekends!).

4. My energy levels are amazing. I don't need caffeine in the morning and have fairly consistent energy throughout the day. Which has ultimately resulted in higher productivity.

5. My sleep has been more regular. I used to get up multiple times a night, toss/turn and just not be able to stay asleep or sleep well. I'm beginning to have full sleep cycles where I don't wake up at all and can't remember my dreams (psych tip: if you don't remember your dreams it means you've gone through your whole entire sleep cycle uninterrupted, it's the ultimate goal of good sleep!) .

6. I've noticed a more even state of mind with less anxiety throughout the day.

7. Decreased cravings for sweets. I use to have a major sweet tooth, craving brownies once a week and something sweet after every meal. I now really don't need anything sweet to end my night.

8. I'm not sure if it's because I'm getting more nutrients, but I don't get extremely hungry. I used to get hangry SO often and I absolutely had to eat something quite large in the morning. I'm happy (so is the hubby) to say that I no longer get like that.

Now, I'm not sure everything has to do with celery juice alone, but all I'm reporting is that I have noticed a significant difference in such a short period of time. It's why I continue to juice and hoard bunches of organic celery at the grocery store and think it's not BS.

I highly recommend you give it a shot, what do you have to loose?citynitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05176600267032530793noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6580841975164542171.post-79076917999993154442019-04-02T16:08:00.000-07:002019-04-02T16:08:38.692-07:00"We Don't Lose Friends, we Just Learn who Our Real Ones Are" One of the hardest lessons I had to learn and still to this day have to struggle with is that not every relationship that comes in your life is meant to stay with you in your future.

Knowing when to let go and even recognize when a relationship is hurting or preventing you from growing is often not very clear.

If the only thing you could offer a friend was friendship would they still be there for you?

If a guy knew he wouldn't be getting lucky with you tonight, would he still hold a conversation with you?

After always supporting their endeavors, would they be there for you when you worked on yours?

After having their back and going against loved ones, would they have your back during difficult times?

After always making time and a priority for them, would they do the same for you?

I learned the hard way that the answer to all these questions for a lot of people I came across was, No. That shook me to the core and really hurt me. As someone who doesn't look for selfish gains when befriending someone, I didn't understand for a long time where they were coming from.

Accepting that there are people who have different values than myself who are going to cross paths with me is something I'm coming to terms with. People have different priorities in their life and if I'm not one of them, that's ok. At the end of the day, most relationships come and go, but the real true ones are the ones that stick through thick and thin.

Instead my efforts are puts towards things and people that I can adamantly answer yes to those questions. It's amazing to have relationships that don't have strings attached that isn't rooted on what the other person can gain, but instead is about supporting each other.

In a world that is so focused on how many followers or friends you have on social media, it doesn't mean $hit at the end of the day when you're going through a hard time and all 600 of them are nowhere to be found.

Consider doing some "spring cleaning" on your relationships. As Marie Kondo would say, if it doesn't spark joy, thank it and move on with your life!

I just started reading The Happiness Advantage by Shawn Achor and it has me reminiscing : How ultimately do you define if you're happy?

It seems like from the day you are brought into this world there is this task reward system in place. Get an A and you'll be happy, get a promotion and you'll be happy, get married and you'll be happy and the list goes on.

I know I thought this way and it's been how I've lived my whole life, but realize as these accomplishments are hit, instead we set new things to obtain in order to stay "happy" . So when will we truly be happy?

As discussed in the Happiness Advantage many believe that we need to work hard, be more successful to be happy. However, studies have shown that is actually backwards. Instead happiness fuels success, not the other way around.

Someone once told me I don't seem happy and they would be correct. If there's one thing I can't do is pretend to be something I'm not. The clearest way I can explain this is that I've built this shiny great house that looks amazing on the outside from what was expected of me from society, family and other forces, but inside it was a complete mess and total chaos. The house doesn't represent me and what I want to do in this life, but instead represents what's expected of me from others. So begins the process of tearing down the house and starting from scratch to build something that represents me and what I want. I'm just at the beginning of this journey, but all I can say is that it's been freeing and I'm so excited for what's to come in the future.

I hope all of you are living your honest best life and doing what you love most. We only have one life, why not live it how you want it to be?

"Happiness is letting go of what you think your life is supposed to look like."
To all those people that visited my site and was waiting for more content, but was met with nothing. I'm so sorry for disappearing on you for so long. If you're looking for food content please follow me on instagram @citynitz and @city_niche.

I had to take care of some things and if I could rewind the clock I don't think I would have started a blog years ago. You see back then I was this insecure girl trying to find my way living alone in Los Angeles. So many things have changed since then and I wouldn't recognize the girl I used to be staring back at me. I cherish the good, bad, ugly and all of it though because it's made me the woman I am today.

You know that scene in Little Mermaid where she gives up her voice to become human? In some ways I view my younger years as a time where my voice was trapped in that shell around Ursula's neck. Only just now that shell has been yanked by Scuttle and the shell has shattered releasing my voice back to me.

So what you'll find here is my honest true voice. No filters, no edits, but true honest me. Scary right? Yes, in a world that only highlights the good in your life, but leaves out half the story that no one knows (i.e Facebook/Instagram). This will be all of me because I'm not scared anymore, I'm not trying to win a popularity contest and quite frankly for the first time in my life I'm free from honestly giving a fuck about judgement, hate and negativity.

I hope to share with you the past along with the knowledge, life lessons and stories to inspire you to live your best life. So if you're brave enough, come take a real look behind the girl of Citynitz.

I hope you find the information insightful, motivating and realize at the end of the day everyone is just trying to figure out this thing called life.
Wow, it's been 8 years since my last post and looking back on this blog I had half assed it and really didn't do it justice. In my defense, back then I didn't have a vision as to what I wanted this to be, but most importantly my WHY was not strong enough to keep me motivated to put time and effort into this source.

Let's be honest, I always struggled with blogs and those that knew me back then know how much I struggled with all the coding (GOD, I hated all the coding). While people I knew were drafting up long extravagant write ups of their restaurants describing every detail of each ingredient, I struggled to describe a piece of chicken differently for the 50th time. I held back always concerned that I was doing or saying something wrong from all the other food bloggers. It was what people I knew were doing, so I blindly followed.

Fast forward to present day and I realize now that timid, quiet girl who was always concerned about what other people thought just needed some growing up to do. That I did, things are much clearer for me and I hope to emerge with content that people can find useful as well as applicable to their lives.

Many years may have passed, but I'm still that girl that is fascinated with food, constantly on the lookout for the hottest/ newest spots and constantly chasing after the crazy reaction I get when I take a bite of the most amazing thing that has come in contact to my tongue.

While I work on revamping this blog site, I hope you continue to not be a stranger and show me some love on my active instagram accounts:

Citynitz - What I've been up to on a more frequent basis

City_Niche - A resource of some of the greatest places and things to do around the world

I look forward to reconnecting to those I lost touch with and meeting new people.

Until next time, stay honest, true and always live your best life.

Lots of Love,

I know I've been MIA for quite some time and some of you have been requesting for posts. Known for their famous dry, fried chicken wings, this is an absolute “must have” if not, the only dish to order.

Granted, I've only been to this place one other time, which was during my high school years, I was somewhat hesitant about their quality and ownership status. However, unlike many notorious places in the San Gabriel Valley, you can expect for most restaurants in the Bay Area to be thriving and under the same ownership.

So, on a cloudy and cool afternoon, we trekked over to this restaurant that appeared to be no different than other restaurants that surrounded it. Although at 3pm this place was packed, we were lucky enough to snag the last open table in the back.

What we ordered:

Dry Fried Chicken Wings: There are two variations to choose from (wet and dry) and I hesitated for a moment as to which one it was I had in the past. The waitress immediately said, “you want the dry fried version."

The wings were served fresh and came to us smoking for both orders. Yes, we did order a second plate after eating everything else. The verdict: These wings blew Izakaya Bincho's and any wings I've ever had out of the water. Don't be surprised if you see patrons with a bowl of rice and just the chicken. It's that good.

Dry fried chicken wings congealed in some sort of honey glazing, garlic, onion, peppers, chilies, and potentially every other spice in the world. These wings are anything, but dry.

Black Bean Sauce Noodles (aka Ja-Jang Mein): Black-Bean-Sauce atop a bed of hand pulled noodles and accompanied by slices of cucumber. Perfect ratio of sauce to noodles.

Jampong: Seafood mixed with hand pulled noodles in a slightly spicy broth. However, when compared to the other dishes, it is simply not comparable.

Others have raved about their dumplings, but they seem like nothing special compared to the ones you can get in Socal. Until next time, my decision has been made, these are the best wings you'll find in California.

San Tung Chinese Restaurant
1031 Irving St
San Francisco, CA 94122
(415) 242-0828

citynitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05176600267032530793noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6580841975164542171.post-56130434758083537752009-08-26T10:15:00.000-07:002009-08-27T08:20:56.147-07:00I Shall Redeem Myself!Ok, so let's be honest, I've definitely had my fair share of misses when choosing new restaurants to try in LA. Unfortunately, I like to drag some of my closest buddies with me to "try" these new potential hidden gems. The result? Complete and utter distrust in my taste of food. I just call it bad luck?

So to redeem myself I'm doing an all out food crawl for the weekend of Labor Day in my hood : NorCal. Yes, ladies and gents I will be back home during that weekend and on a quest to prove that my credibility should most definitely be upped! Fellow foodie Kungfoodpanda who has probably endured most of these mishap trips will be along for the ride.

These places are spots that are a must go whenever I'm back in town, so not necessarily the most well known. Just favorite places I sometimes use to gage against LA restaurants. For example, a place that puts Savoy's chicken to shame, Brazilian food served in a hut, and the best egg tarts I've had (not the cold small crappy ones down here).

If you're in the Bay Area during Labor Day, let me know and feel free to join!citynitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05176600267032530793noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6580841975164542171.post-18973269311816701952009-08-14T00:23:00.000-07:002009-08-14T00:34:10.754-07:00LA Mill : Coffee Hater turned Coffee LoverI was recently introduced to LA Mill in Silverlake and I literally felt like I've been living under a rock for the past two years in Los Angeles.

I hate Starbucks, well....maybe "hate" is too strong of a word, but I most definitely dislike them. Any given time you go to Starbucks you're met with crowds, a long wait and finally leaving with an over sweetened drink that is bound to result in a root canal in the near future (hence why I rarely even bother with their coffee). Forget even trying to get any work done here because with kids screaming, eyesight buzzing due to lack of lighting, and of course the need to nearly come off as a creepy stalker to get a table that is less than the the size of a large pizza. Yeah, no thank you!

Upon entering LA Mill, I knew I would love this place. With its modern chic decor from the light turquoise chairs paired with white counter tops and the gold chandelier at the center of the room, all I could think of was "Wow" and "Hm....maybe I could incorporate some design aspects in my future house?"

Blanco y Negro: iced coffee with vanilla bean ice cream
It was by far my favorite drink of the day. Ideal for a hot summer afternoon where the strength of the coffee is perfectly balanced with the sweetness of the vanilla bean ice cream. I only wished they served this in a larger glass.

Iced Mocha- Mocha had a nice strong flavor and definitely a good option for those who don't like their coffee too sweet, but iced.

French Pressed Coffee- This method of preparing the coffee definitely brings out the excellent rich flavor of the coffee even more so. Accompanied by cubes of white and brown sugar and cream for those who don't like their coffee black.

At a table next to us someone had ordered the siphon to brew their coffee which basically looked like a chemistry experiment and left me glossy eyed, mouth open for the few minutes that it was processing. I'll definitely want to order this the next time I stop by.

With the dessert menu designed by none other than Chef Michael Cimarusti and Pastry Chef Adrian Vasquez of Michelin-two-starred Providence, I had to give them a try.

Passionfruit Gelee- Lychee sorbet, coconut soy milk soup, and basil seeds. Such a perfect balance of all flavors with no one flavor overpowering the other.
I absolutely loved this.

Liquid Center Lollipops- White chocolate. I decided to go with white chocolate even though you have a choice between white and dark chocolate. Having being warned to just pop the whole thing in my mouth or the liquid inside might drip onto my clothes, I did just that. These little puppies are unlike anything I've ever had and what the liquid inside is a mystery. All I can say is it's definitely not what I expected and I wanted to order more.

So even being a non coffee drinker myself, after visiting LA Mill I just might need to reconsider my stance. Perhaps it was Starbucks that was giving coffee a bad rep all along.

LA MILL
1636 Silver Lake Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90026
(323) 663-4441

<span style=";font-family:";font-size:12;color:black;" >

citynitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05176600267032530793noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6580841975164542171.post-11648660604947164502009-08-05T22:09:00.000-07:002009-08-05T22:49:58.576-07:00Blogger Prom: Oh, What a Night!
Although my high school prom was one of the most memorable nights of my life, the first Blogger Prom 2009 held at the legendary Andaz Hotel on the Sunset strip in West Hollywood without a doubt far exceeded my expectations.

The venue was to die for, with views of all of Los Angeles, this place was absolutely breathtaking with it's view during the early and late part of the evening. This hotel had just completed a $35 million remodel and they did good. Along with it's poshness this hotel housed many stars. Namely, members of Led Zeppelin rented entire floors and had driven motorcycles through the hallways (the movie Almost Famous also recreated these scenes here), Keith Richards of The Rolling Stones dropped a TV off the balcony and Jim Morrison permanently lived here for years as well.

What would an event be without food? From what I hear the Torrence location had much more food, including the special "Tonkotsu Ramen," which the Costa Mesa location did not. Either way, there were still many food stands inside the marketplace.

I wanted to come to Mitsuwa for primarily one reason and that was for the "Pie Fresh Custard Pudding on Choux". A custard cream puff sandwiching a nice sized piece of pudding. So good, I wish I had bought more boxes.

First stand that we see when we walk in!

Workers hard at work

Two puffs for $5, what a deal!

Such a beautiful sight <3

Nom, Nom, Nom......

Other stands that sold other items such as an assortment of sushi and fish cakes

What would I do without you Mitsuwa, love this place.

Mitsuwa Marketplace
665 Paularino Ave.
Costa Mesa, CA 92626citynitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05176600267032530793noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6580841975164542171.post-39384085311186252152009-07-12T14:02:00.000-07:002009-08-09T01:02:47.428-07:00Tomato Pie: A Big Bite of New York Lands in LAI've been given the nickname "grandma" many a times for my odd habit of drinking hot water by itself in my office (something that has stuck since winter time), slow driving, or my "early" bed time of 11pm or midnight compared to other friends.

Alas, when I heard from Christine of Choisauce about Tomato Pie and their famous Grandma pizza that had ranked 7th of the top 25 pizzas in the US by GQ magazine, I couldn't resist, but to go check it out.

We started off with the Breakfast Pizza which consisted of tomato, bacon, and spinach atop an egg and olive oil base. According to the owner, Garrett, the egg was beat and then poured over the pizza before baking it, really allowing it to integrate with the cheese and rest of toppings. After all, who says you've really had breakfast without an egg in some sort of shape or form?

Next we were given complementary cucumber salad mixed with tomatoes and a little bit of vinaigrette. Very refreshing and satisfying on the hot above 90 degree outdoor seating where we were enjoying our food.

Finally, the only pizza I really wanted to try and had woken up at 8am due to excitement after going to bed at 2:30am the previous night was here. The Grandma was a very simple pizza with no meat, but instead consisted of crushed marinated tomatoes over an olive oil base, fresh garlic basil, oregano, light mozzarella and Parmesan sprinkled on top. For a gal whose bro says I shouldn't go for my typical "all meat" pizzas, but should opt for vegetarian choices instead, I would happy to take a pizza like this to pretend to be a little more ladylike.;)

Following that famous pizza was the chicken fiesta which consisted of tomato, basil, onion, chicken and a little bit of jalapenos to give it just a little kick. This particular pizza was not on it's menu, but seems similar to the fiesta pizza which is currently on it's menu.

After that, the head chef Adrian came out to display a new pizza that he had created. Instead of using tomato sauce as a base, classic and Dijon mustard was used for this pizza that had cheese, tomatoes and salami on one half of the pizza. To be honest, I was getting full and was not sure how I would like this pizza. Surprisingly, I really liked the unique style of this pizza and it easily is a close second for my favorites of the day.

After eating so much dough and cheese, it seriously was a sigh of relief to see that our last pie for the day was a grilled vegetable pizza, also not showcased on the menu, but according to Garrett would gladly be made if requested. On top of the cheese there were large pieces of tomatoes, spinach and eggplant. Although I'm not a huge fan of such large pieces of vegetables on pizza, the vegetables were perfectly marinated and grilled to perfection which complemented the other elements of the pizza very well.

Despite being so full, I suppose there's always room for dessert. Today the owner brought us a sample of tiramisu that was freshly made my Adrien. A perfect ending to a very satisfying meal of pizzas.

Tomato Pie is the perfect spot to satisfy that craving for New York style, thin crust pizza. The only down side was dinning outside with such a large group, but according to Garrett there are plans in the works to make an enclosed eating area where it was currently outdoors among other renovations in the future.

Who says things called "grandma" could not have a negative connotation? I'll gladly take my nickname when it reminds me of such a perfect slice of pizza.

Taste: 4 out of 5
Decor: 3 out of 5
Service: 5 out of 5

Tomato Pie
2457 Hyperion Ave
Los Angeles, CA 90027
(323)661-6474citynitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05176600267032530793noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6580841975164542171.post-1894484038544780492009-06-29T22:31:00.000-07:002009-07-14T12:16:52.241-07:00Izakaya Bincho: A true "Diamond in the Rough"So my first food review is not going to be the LA restaurant with the most Michelin stars, most popular and certainly not most expensive. Never did I think that I would find a place that would be up to par and do I dare say better than San Tung?

Spicy Chicken Wings

Being a tofu fan, the agedashi tofu that we ordered was perfect. Don't get me wrong, they deserve the business, but it's really rare to find a place in LA that has such good quality food and have to not wait at all for a table. I will most definitely return for their chicken wings while I'm away from Norcal. Who knows, I might even crave for them on my next trip up North.

411

citynitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05176600267032530793noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6580841975164542171.post-66282142194619518062009-06-24T12:44:00.000-07:002009-06-29T13:19:47.875-07:00Hello Blogger World! So it's been about two years since I've moved down to LA from Northern California and during that time I've met some great people. Ironically most of them have been bloggers. Since getting sucked into the world of YouTube videos, blogging, and reviewing, I couldn't help but give in to peer pressure to make one of these things as well. So here goes....

So why now? Mostly because I feel I'm at a turning point in my life and everything in my life seems to be on track. I currently work at the Walt Disney Company and could not be more glad to be a part of such a powerhouse in the entertainment industry.

However, most importantly I'm hoping to share everything that's going on with me in LA with all my friends and family who I never forget for one second. I especially miss everyone who isn't here in LA with me! If other people learn from my entries, get some insight or just get a kick from reading my entries, there's really nothing more I can ask for.

Thanks for stopping by and reading!

Jackie

xoxoxocitynitzhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05176600267032530793noreply@blogger.com7
